initial sculpt I ad created over 2 weeks in the mid semester break
detailing up the body
testing different ways to construct believable clothingpolygroups and panel loops
using extract to create clothing and armour
more fabric testing
after talking to some 4 yrs i detailed up the model considerably
more idea testing
constructing clothing, it felt a lot more like a Viking or thief so I started heading in that direction
Braids and hair sculpting
i posted this model on face book and asked for some feed back and harsh crits, after this jared linked me this http://www.believerdeceiver.com/portfolio/3d-works-professional/ which lead me on a completely new path one more fitting with my original concept but one where i had to learn a lot of new techniques
after alot of trial and error and tutorials i started to figure out fibermesh and control it (as much as you can)
creating the armour in zbrush by constructing it poly by poly then dividing, this gave me control over where i wanted the armour to go but at the same time kept my poly count reasonable at the same time
using all the above methods i got to this point i was pretty happy but neglected to think about functionality and details as to hoe it was all held together which came back to get me after posing
PolyPainting
base coatplacing in an underpainting showing which would just add depth and realism to the skin then breaking it up with a vein alpha to it wasnt solid colours and would give me veins in the final
same thing but back
now a few layers of skin colour go on, revealing the magic of the underpainting process
the face showing how the blue on the jaw a few pics back now gives the hint of hair follicles under the skin
final skin paint
painting the armor
painting the eyes
adding a leather texture
uvmapping in zbrush and my model at its lowest sub div
goz to maya
all goz to maya
setup machine
posing
pose back in zbrush placing the armour back in the right spots, i had to go back to zbrush as this is where the lack of functionality of the armour as becoming clear
remaking armour that would actually work
fibermesh again............
this took a long time but i bade straps that actually made sense and wrapped around the rings to add belevability
this time i used photo textures and placed them on the leather and wood on his arm, even a copper one for the ringsand cape to give a much better affect than the previous time i did it when it was just with default zbrush textures
final posed the fingers and added light caps
